Firm History

The firm of Cannon Bruns & Murphy, LLC. traces its roots to Thomas A. Cannon, Sr. as a solo practioner. In 1971, Mr. Cannon was joined by William G. Bruns, a former Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and JAG Officer. The firm has operated as a general law practice at its current location, 119 North High Street in Muncie, Indiana, since 1973. Over the years, members of the firm have practiced in the fields of Estate Planning and Administration, Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Family Law, Real Estate, Business Formation and Counsel and General Civil Litigation.

In 2011, Brandon E. Murphy joined the firm. Mr. Murphy is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law with a criminal law certificate. In 2017, Mr. Bruns retired from the active practice of law. As of 2018, Mr. Murphy is the managing attorney for the firm. Brandon Murphy is a trial and appellate lawyer who focuses his practice in Criminal Defense and Wills and Estates in addition to teaching duties within the criminal justice department of Ball State University. Murphy was formerly a public defender for Jay, Randolph and Delaware counties and continues to serve as court-appointed counsel on a case-by-case basis in Blackford County.

The firm is proud to be continuing its legacy of being advocates and counselors to individuals and small businesses in the Muncie and East Central Indiana area.
