Brandon Murphy

Brandon E. Murphy is a dedicated trial lawyer and appellate advocate with over a decade of experience defending people against criminal charges in Indiana.

At the beginning of his career, Murphy served as court-appointed counsel for criminal defendants in Blackford and Randolph counties. In 2012, Brandon was appointed a Deputy Public Defender in Delaware County trying serious felony matters including charges of murder, sex, drug and property crimes. In 2020, Murphy was appointed the Chief Public Defender of Jay County where he supervises four other attorneys providing public defense.

In 2017, Murphy began teaching part time as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Criminal Justice and Criminology Department at Ball State University, teaching law-related classes to undergraduates and directing the department’s student internship program. Murphy completed his faculty service in 2022.

At Cannon Bruns & Murphy, LLC, Brandon maintains a private law practice along with Associate Attorney Patrick Wright where Murphy represents several government agencies and assists clients in criminal defense and personal injury litigation.

Murphy is also an experienced appellate advocate having handled over fifty (50) appeals with six (6) published decisions in Heather Herren v. Jerry Dishman, 1 N.E.3d 697 (Ind. Ct. App. 2013), In Re: the Matter of C.L., A Delinquent v. State of Indiana, 2 N.E.3d 798 (Ind. Ct. App. 2014), Galen Byers v. State of Indiana, 134 N.E.3d 1051 (Ind. Ct. App. 2019), Jessica Skeens v. State of Indiana, 151 N.E3d 1248 (Ind. Ct. App. 2020), Edgar Pimentel, Jr. v. State of Indiana (Ind. Ct. App. 2022) and Brady Turner v. State of Indiana (Ind. Ct. App. 2022).
