Brandon Murphy is a graduate of Delta High School, Ball State University and the University of Mississippi School of Law. He commenced his law practice in 2011, joining the firm of Cannon & Bruns. By 2015, Murphy became the Managing Attorney of Cannon Bruns & Murphy, LLC.
Early in his practice, Murphy focused in indigent defense of those accused of crimes over a broad geographical area. In 2012, Murphy was appointed as a Deputy Public Defender for Delaware County (Muncie) and handled hundreds of criminal cases and was lead defense counsel in jury trials ranging in severity from misdemeanors to murder. In 2016, Murphy was named First Deputy Public Defender in Jay County (Portland, Indiana) and continues to handle Blackford County public defender cases on a case-by-case basis.
In addition, Brandon maintains a general law practice which focuses on criminal defense, estate planning and estate administration. Murphy is frequently retained by clients facing criminal charges or disciplinary proceedings and often represents college students facing charges in the Muncie City Court. Murphy also teaches a criminal justice course at Ball State University on policing.
Murphy is an appellate advocate who has authored over twenty (20) appellate briefs with two published decisions in Heather Herren v. Jerry Dishman, 1 N.E.3d 697 (Ind. Ct. App. 2013) and In Re: the Matter of C.L., A Delinquent v. State of Indiana, 2 N.E.3d 798 (Ind. Ct. App. 2014).« Back to Attorneys Page
